The Stradivatango project brings together two exceptional Canadian artists: Stéphane Tétreault, recognized as a prodigy of the cello, and Denis Plante, a leading figure of the bandoneon in Canada.
Together, they explore the world of tango with unmatched passion and virtuosity. Their repertoire consists of Argentine tango classics as well as works specially composed for their unique duo. Their performances alternate between intimate moments and explosive passages, capturing the full emotional richness of tango, from its mesmerizing melancholy to its effervescent energy. Their interpretations are marked by a constant quest for authenticity and creativity, offering the audience a musical experience that is both profound and unforgettable.
In addition to innumerous awards and honours, Stéphane Tétreault is the recipient of the prestigious 2019 Virginia Parker Prize from the Canada Council for the Arts in recognition of his outstanding talent, musicianship, artistic excellence, and his valuable contribution to artistic life in Canada and abroad.
In 2016, Stéphane made his solo debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Nézet-Séguin and performed at the prestigious Gstaad Menuhin Festival. Most recently, he took part in the Orchestre Métropolitain European tour with Maestro Nézet-Séguin and made his debut with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
His debut CD, recorded with the Quebec Symphony Orchestra was chosen as “Editor’s Choice” of Gramophone Magazine. His second album with pianist MarieÈve Scarfone was chosen as Gramophone Magazine’s “Critics’ Choice 2016” and recognised as one of the best albums of the year.
Stéphane plays the 1707 “Countess of Stainlein, Ex-Paganini” Stradivarius cello, on generous loan by Mrs. Sophie Desmarais.

Denis Plante grew up in an artistic family in Montreal, surrounded by early music instruments, costumes and theatre set pieces. A charismatic soloist, he has performed with artists such as Diane Dufresne, Gilles Vigneault and André Gagnon.
After a stint in Argentina, he settled in Quebec, where he founded the ensemble Tango Boréal, which serves as a lab for his impressionist tango creations. He has garnered multiple awards, including for best song at the Festival international de la chanson de Granby and the Creator of the Year award from CALQ (Quebec).
His productions under the ATMA Classique label have twice earned him the Opus Award for Recording of the Year (World Music). His opera La Bibliothèque-interdite has been touring in Canada since 2014.
