PROGRAM
Alice’s Gift, A Musical Play by Elisabeth Wagner, directed by Kate Rubin with Lina de Guevara as Alice, and Elisabeth Wagner, piano
“Music was our food.” Meet Alice Herz-Sommer, Jewish pianist from Prague who lived through WWII playing piano recitals in the Theresienstadt ghetto and who, at the time of her death in 2014 at 110 years of age, was the world’s oldest Holocaust survivor. Hers is a remarkable story of endurance and survival. In the play, the audience is invited into Alice’s living room and given the opportunity to hear some of her stories, her music and her simple but profound wisdom. Integrating the music of Chopin, Beethoven, Bach, and others into the story, Alice’s Gift is a poignant, inspiring and uplifting memoir, and a beautiful crafted tribute to an extraordinary woman.
