Dominic Ghiglione, trombone, with Cherith Alexander, piano
Dominic Ghiglione is a second-year student at the University of Regina pursuing a joint Bachelor’s in Music/Music Education degree. He started playing trombone at age 12 in the Regina Catholic Schools Band program, graduating from Dr. Martin LeBoldus Catholic High School in 2016.
Dominic has participated in the Regina Music Festival for the past five years, earning several first place honors and scholarships for his performances including the William Cornish Award in the Lions Competition at the 2018 Regina Music Festival. He has been recommended for provincial competition several times and has won the Colin Grunert Brass Memorial Scholarship twice. He has played in several honor bands including the SMEA Honor Band, University of Regina Honor Band, and the RCSD High School Honor Band. In Grade 11 and 12 he auditioned and was accepted to represent Saskatchewan in the National Youth Band (NYB) of Canada. In 2017, Dominic represented Saskatchewan in the brass category at the National Music Festival in Ottawa.
Mr. Ghiglione was chosen as the outstanding soloist to perform for the Regina Catholic Band Days Grand Concert in 2011, 2015, and 2016. He also placed second at the Regina Musical Club Recital Competition. Dominic was privileged to be awarded the John Griffiths Low Brass Entrance Scholarship on his entry to the University of Regina. In 2017, Dominic auditioned and was accepted to Domaine Forget’s summer training program in Quebec City which he will return to in summer 2018. He currently studies with Dr. David Dick, Principal Trombone of the Regina Symphony Orchestra and formerly with Colin Neufeld.
Dominic is a trombonist in such ensembles as the Regina Symphony Orchestra, University of Regina Wind Ensemble, Regina Jazz Orchestra, Bob Moyer Big Band and leads his own group Point7 Jazz Collective.
